The play is about the role and effect of puppets in society based on the story of the Bhat’s (Puppeteers). The performance also highlights their present day condition as well as their ongoing struggle to save their traditional art. Traditional string, shadow and rod puppets mingle with modern body, head and glove puppets in a unique way to create a satire on their dying art form.

The origins of the kathputli can be traced to the famed Simhasan Battissi throne of king Vikramaditya. Puppets were used a medium of communication to convey the king’s message as well as an instrument of entertainment.

Swaagatam means welcome the guest either in house or anywhere. Today the word swaagat is very popular in India. From this word we started Swaagat Samaroh (welcome ceremony) either in public place or at home. In ancient time while King coming to his Kingdom, the people were celebrating in the honor of the King or their guest. Slowly and slowly its started in general people to celebrate their love ones or any other important guest.

In this regard we made a play for Swaagat Samaroh to welcome the foreigner guest or opening ceremony. In the play artists were dancing, singing at the door for the reception of their guest.
